Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in laboratory or biological sciences required.
• Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, CLIA regulations, and quality control methods.
• Must possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or be registry-eligible.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) is also acceptable.
• Registry-eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment.
• If working in North Dakota, must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
• Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications.
• May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients.
• Required to perform clinical laboratory testing and other necessary duties to keep the department functioning smoothly.
• Will work with self discipline, good judgment, and considerable independence while following established standards of practice.
• Overall will demonstrate technical competency and will consult with leadership when necessary.
• Needs to recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care.
• Understand the use and limitations of laboratory instruments and equipment, must demonstrate proficiency in assigned areas, be able to learn and utilize new technology as laboratory medicine changes.
• Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations for the all age groups.
• Perform laboratory testing according to established standards and regulations to assist the provider in diagnosis and treatment of the patients.
