About The Position

At Olmsted Medical Center, we are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE) with rotating shifts. This position plays a crucial role in our laboratory operations, demonstrating leadership in all aspects of laboratory practice and serving as a technical resource for our staff. The successful candidate will be proficient in general laboratory practices, including but not limited to Blood Bank, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Immunology, Limited Microbiology, Microscopy, Molecular Microbiology, Phlebotomy, Urinalysis, and specimen handling and processing. The role requires a strong understanding of contemporary laboratory accreditation and regulations, with active participation in the accreditation process. The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician will be responsible for performing required quality control and proficiency testing, evaluating QC/PT data, and developing corrective actions as necessary. Additionally, the candidate will maintain accurate records of testing, quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. In this position, you will also instruct patients in proper collection procedures, assist with the evaluation and development of new or improved test systems, and participate in the orientation and competency assessment of new employees. A commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and managing adequate inventory is essential. This role is ideal for individuals who possess good communication skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment in problem identification and resolution.
