About The Position

A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is a laboratory medicine specialist who collects patient specimens, accurately completes the required analytical tests according to acceptable techniques, verifies results, and reports the findings to the appropriate healthcare provider. A MLT/MLS must be certain that all reported results are accurate. They must demonstrate empathy and professional concern in all patient contacts. The MLT/MLS ensures consistent regulatory compliance, coordinates the day-to-day operations of the laboratory system, and assists in the leadership of the Westfields Hospital and Clinic Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree with courses in biological and physical sciences or accredited clinical laboratory education program
  • Current certification as Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent by a national board of registry ASCP
  • Eligibility to sit for certification if a new graduate

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic or hospital laboratory
  • Demonstrated keyboarding skill and computer knowledge
  • Previous training and/or usage of EPIC computer system
  • Phlebotomy training and experience drawing patients ranging from infants to geriatric

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient specimens
