About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist at Yuma Regional Medical Center is responsible for providing comprehensive laboratory testing for patients, ensuring accurate and timely laboratory results across various disciplines. This role involves performing both manual and automated lab procedures, including microbiology, serology, chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, blood bank, and phlebotomy as needed. The position emphasizes quality assurance and improvement, as well as mentoring and instructing others in the laboratory setting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or Associate's Degree with MLS Certification.
• Working knowledge of Safetrace TX and Blood Track Information Systems.
• Working knowledge of Grifols instrumentation.
• Working knowledge of Thromboelastography.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
• Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests to each other and with the patient's condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values. Verifies accuracy of results.
• Performs daily instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and resolving specimen integrity problems. Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation.
• Performs specimen collection and interpretation of patient results and quality control data.
• Leads and participates in quality assurance, quality improvement activities, and quality control processes. Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis.
• Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Competitive hourly pay rate ranging from $30.6681 to $38.3352 based on experience and skills.
