About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II position in Roanoke, VA, requires performing test procedures of moderate/high complexity, necessitating independent judgment and responsibility in relevant specialties. The role includes working Monday to Friday with rotational weekends from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required, with unvaccinated individuals subject to regular testing. The pay range starts at $25.79 per hour, with salary offers based on various factors including skills, training, experience, and education. Successful candidates may also be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Requirements

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting with high complexity testing.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or an Associate's degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • ASCP Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with the most current year in the present department.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Ensure quality control requirements are met and document QC analysis.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, and process improvement.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, and reporting.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections as needed.
  • Assist in training other laboratory personnel.
  • Make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
