About The Position

This is an independent professional medical laboratory scientist position that is assigned to the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories - Miami. This position has ON-CALL assignment responsibilities. This position is primarily responsible for the Rabies Department, including performing necropsies, slide staining, and Direct Fluorescent Antibody (DFA) testing in accordance with Bureau of Public Health Laboratories (BPHL) standard operating procedures. The role also ensures quality control; turnaround times are met and that results are reported to submitters in a timely manner. The incumbent will need to receive a rabies vaccine. Prepares and discards daily medical waste following Bureau of Public Health Laboratories Bio-waste protocol. Attend staff meetings and required training. Follows BOL/DOH safety policies. Perform molecular virology testing, influenza surveillance testing, vector borne disease testing during outbreaks. Performs Environmental testing when needed. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.
  • Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
  • Skill in the use of lab equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Candidate must be eligible for a clinical laboratory technologist license or public health license.
