About The Position

Performs routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizes deviations and provides interpretation following established standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing including maintaining established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, processing biological specimens for analysis, evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing, and operating instruments within the scope of training.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance procedures and recognizes equipment malfunctions, acting according to established protocols.
  • Performs, records, and maintains accurate quality control records, recognizing out of control results and taking appropriate actions.
  • Acts as a knowledge resource by answering inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results, fostering effective communication between laboratory and health care team while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Performs routine inquiry and data input on the laboratory computer systems, ensuring accuracy of information and responsible for corrective actions.
  • Instructs new associates and students as required, assessing competencies of other test performers based on experience and education.
  • Completes required number of continuing education units and mandatory in-services, maintaining and upgrading personal professional development.
  • Provides guidance to co-workers in the absence of an on-site Supervisor regarding staffing and technical issues that arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
