Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biology required.
  • Minimum one (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting for high complexity testing.
  • Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills for handling inquiries from clients.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment.
  • Report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling and processing.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits are properly dated and managed.
  • Perform and document quality control analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
  • Inform supervisory personnel of any problems with test procedures.
  • Report deviations from standard testing procedures and cooperate with investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Answer questions from clients or lab personnel as needed.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections if required.
  • Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor if qualified.
