About The Position

ECU Health Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The 15-bed emergency department serves approximately 25,000 patients per year. In addition to providing general medical and surgical services, ECU Health Duplin Hospital offers chemotherapy and other cancer infusion interventions and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As a MLS, you will: Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. Works alternate shifts as required. Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelors degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable.
  • For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
