About The Position

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a science related field. This position involves performing all laboratory testing specific to the assigned section, remaining knowledgeable and competent in all policies, procedures, and protocols. The candidate will follow the section's inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents, receive specimens from clinics and other locations, order appropriate tests, and assign pathologists to the cases. Responsibilities also include performing special stains and immuno-fluorescent stains, scanning new cases into the scanner, assisting in pediatric bone marrow procedures, and complying with safety guidelines and regulatory mandates. The candidate will enhance productivity and laboratory functions by demonstrating dependability, adjusting and prioritizing work to meet workload demands, and participating in process improvement projects. Proficiency in computer functions related to lab processes is required, including acquiring specimen data, analyzing patient results, and storing patient information for future access.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR Bachelor's degree in a related science field OR successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program.
  • With Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, two years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • With Bachelor's degree in a related science field, one year of clinical laboratory experience.
  • With completion of a NAACLS accredited program, no experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all laboratory testing specific to the assigned section.
  • Remains knowledgeable and competent for all policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Follows section's inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents.
  • Receives specimen from clinic and other locations, orders appropriate tests and assigned pathologists to the cases.
  • Performs Special Stains and Immuno-fluorescent stains and remains competent.
  • Scans new cases into the scanner and attaches files to patient records.
  • Assists in Pediatric Bone marrow and grossing of bone marrow material.
  • Complies with safety guidelines and procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates.
  • Remains responsible and accountable for all actions.
  • Adjusts, prioritizes, and organizes work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section.
  • Adheres to attendance policy, begins work as scheduled.
  • Works independently, utilizes resources available to maximize efficiency.
  • Participates in process improvement projects.
  • Maintains proficiency on computer functions in the lab processes.
  • Properly acquires specimen data into computer system(s).
  • Analyzes and evaluates patient results correctly and appropriately.
  • Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.
