About The Position

The Medical Lab Technologist will conduct blood tests, prepare blood components, test for infections, maintain laboratory equipment, document results, ensure quality control, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and compatibility of blood transfusions.

Requirements

• Education: A bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field.
• Certification: Certification from a recognized body such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is often required.
• Skills: Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of immunohematology.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Blood Tests: Perform blood typing, cross-matching, and antibody identification to ensure compatibility for transfusions.
• Prepare Blood Components: Process and prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions.
• Test for Infections: Screen blood samples for viral or bacterial infections to ensure safety.
• Maintain Equipment: Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly.
• Document Results: Record and maintain detailed records of test results and blood donations.
• Quality Control: Implement and adhere to stringent protocols and quality control measures to safeguard patient health.
• Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare workers to provide necessary blood products and information.
