Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician; or equivalent in accordance with the CLIA requirements
  • Medical Lab Technician Trainee License is acceptable provided graduation from an accredited Medical Lab Technician Program has been completed and will test within 1 year of hire.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Registry from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent registry and West Virginia State Laboratory Technician licensure OR Medical Lab Technician Trainee License is acceptable provided graduation from an accredited Medical Lab Technician Program has been completed and will test within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory analysis and quality control testing following clearly defined criteria.
  • Reports any unusual conditions to the Senior Tech, Coordinator over that area, in the absence of the Director or the Pathologist.
  • Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.
  • Performs instrument maintenance and calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Performs quality control testing.
  • Maintains supplies needed for performance of tests.
  • Performs collections, clerical duties and administration.
  • Responsible for order and result entry into laboratory information systems.
  • Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
