Position Summary: Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures, as well as maintains quality control practices in the laboratory. Performs common testing procedures and reports test results. Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Performs quality control testing. Maintains supplies needed for performance of tests.

Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology, chemistry, Biology or Science and certified as a MLT (AMT, ASCP, or NCA).(OR)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician performing high complexity testing, who graduated on or after April 24, 1995: Must have an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science.(OR)
  • Medical Laboratory Technicians who graduated before April, 24, 1995: Must have graduated from an approved or accredited medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program or have successful completed at least 50 weeks official US military medical laboratory procedures course and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).(OR)
  • Education and training equivalent to an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology:- Education - 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hours of chemistry; 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology, or any combination).- Training - Either completion of an approved/accredited clinical laboratory training program, which may be included in the 60 semester hours specified above or at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. m ust be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
