About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a variety of laboratory tests on tissue, blood, and other bodily fluids to assist physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, The Medical Laboratory Technician will: Perform quantitative or qualitative analysis of blood, urine, and/or other bodily fluids.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in clinical/medical technology or biological science.
  • Certification as an MLT/MLS through ASCP-BOC or equivalent preferred.
  • 3-4 years related experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current immunizations are required to work at Sunrise Community Health and may vary dependent upon the position. Influenza (Flu) Vaccines are required for ALL staff. COVID vaccine is highly encouraged. N95 Testing is required for Clinical positions and facial hair must not interfere with the seal or valve function of the respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantitative or qualitative analysis of blood, urine, and/or other bodily fluids.
  • Maintain lab manifest.
  • Verify the patient’s name, demographics, provider name, and insurance information are current when ordering lab test in the lab system.
  • Work with Medical Assistants and Providers to ensure all lab charges are entered in EHR.
  • Follow procedures for calling patients that have critical results and require immediate attention by the provider.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records and document all Quality Control activity on test being performed, including calibration and maintenance. Demonstrate that the Q.C. samples are tested in the same manner.
  • Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of results.
  • Collect and study blood samples to determine the number of cells, their morphology, or their blood group, blood type, or compatibility for transfusion purposes, using microscopic techniques.
  • Order lab supplies as well as ensuring proper storage for viability.
  • Team Based Care – Clinical Care Collaboration – Work in collaboration and continuous partnership with providers, clinical staff, and community resources in a team approach to promote access to appropriate care in the goal of enhancing patient health.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with outside partners (AMIC).
  • Ability to be flexible with hours of operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
