About The Position

Reporting to the Lead Medical Laboratory Technincian, and Manager of Lab Services, the Medical Laboratory Technician's (MLT) primary responsibility is to perform waived and moderately complex laboratory testing on patient's samples. In this capacity the MLT performs the preanalytical, analytical and post analytical testing and is responsible for quality control, equipment maintenance and all reporting and documentation.

Requirements

  • Two year Degree preferred.
  • 1 year clinical Laboratory experience preferred
  • CA Medical Laboratory Technician License
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficient with computer

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates waived and moderately complex test results to determine accuracy and reasonableness utilizing delta checks and analyzer flags. When applicable, determines the steps necessary to resolve discrepancies or problems with specimens. Either acts to resolve problem or refers problem to CLS.
  • Performs and monitors quality control functions for waived and moderately complex tests and tests that do not require microscopic analysis. Responds to unacceptable results and takes appropriate action.
  • Accurately enters patient testing data and documents corrections appropriately. Meets established turnaround times.
  • Performs the required instrument maintenance based on bench assignment within the specified time frames. Maintains accurate and complete documentation. Takes the initiative to update instrument maintenance logs as needed.
  • Demonstrates the required competency with instrument operation. Able to trouble shoot and follow through with service repair to ensure instrument is functioning in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to the required documentation when using supplies. Performs parallel testing as required.
  • Assists with ordering, labeling and putting away supplies. Demonstrates self direction with inventory management.
  • Adheres to laboratory safety standards including personal protective equipment.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work environment.
