About The Position

Responsible for performing in a professional and courteous manner, with little or no supervision, laboratory procedures required to assure service of the highest quality to both the patients and staff.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the principles of laboratory clinical medical technology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of the four major disciplines of laboratory practice (clinical chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology, and microbiology).
  • Ability to exercise judgment in unusual or stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (preferred)
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program and have one year laboratory experience or
  • Completion of an Associated Degree or 60 semester hours of college course work including 36 hours in biological and physical sciences.
  • One year after completing an accredited Medical Lab Technician Program or
  • Three years full-time laboratory experiences which include four months in each of the four disciplines of laboratory practice (clinical chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology.)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for greeting and courteously providing assistance to all individuals entering the clinic.
  • Able to perform all laboratory tests offered in-house in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Ensures that all discrepancies in either laboratory results, controls, or equipment are reported to the laboratory manager or person left in charge.
  • Handles all patients and their body fluids according to OSHA regulations.
  • Adheres to all confidentiality protocols when referring to the patients and their results.
  • Conducts periodic inventory of work area(s) to aid laboratory manager in keeping al working inventory of necessary supplies.
  • Assists with phlebotomy procedures and the necessary paperwork needed to log in/out results.
  • Manage work flow activities of the patient, patient results, and patient encounter.
  • Promotes a service orientation to all persons (patients, employees, or visitors) who come to the clinic.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
