About The Position

The position is for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) at Advocate Health, specifically within the Pediatric Hematology department. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, with a schedule from Monday to Thursday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and Friday from 8 AM to 12 PM. The technician will perform and report various laboratory tests, calibrate and maintain equipment, and assist in specimen collection and processing. The job also involves quality control, proficiency testing, and maintaining clerical records. The technician will assist in teaching responsibilities and supply management within the section.

Requirements

• Registration as MLT (ASCP), RCT, MLT (AMT), CLT (NCA).
• High School or GED Diploma Graduate.
• Associate degree required in Applied Sciences.
• MLT (ASCP) registry or equivalent as determined by the Professional Director.

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports various laboratory tests in accordance with prescribed procedures.
• Calibrates, standardizes equipment and performs minor equipment maintenance.
• Recognizes instrument malfunction and out of control test results and seeks assistance from Clinical Lab Supervisor or Technologists.
• Performs quality control to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents and procedures.
• Performs proficiency testing.
• Assists in specimen collection and processing as necessary.
• Maintains clerical records.
• Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Maintains a positive work environment.
• Assists in teaching responsibilities for other MLTs and Tech Extenders.
• Assists Technologists in supply management for the section.
