The Medical Lab Technician utilizes the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory tests. This role involves following departmental procedures and policies, operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, and performing routine technical tasks to support results. The technician is responsible for setting up, adjusting, calibrating, and maintaining equipment, as well as collecting and preparing samples, solutions, and specimens, and ensuring safe disposal of waste. They must possess a positive attitude, function within approved policies and regulations, and be capable of independently addressing instrument problems. The technician will also assist with the orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to the unit. Professional interaction with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors is required. Attendance to yearly mandatory education is non-negotiable. The technician will be assigned up to 40 hours a week and will rotate between day and night shifts according to unit and staff needs. They must be willing to perform any duty within the scope of a medical technologist as requested by the laboratory manager or director.
