About The Position

The Supervisor Medical Lab Scientist oversees the day-to-day technical operations of one or more sections within the clinical laboratory. Working closely with the Director of Laboratory Services, this role ensures effective section oversight, coordinates staffing, and manages workflow. The supervisor evaluates new instrumentation, monitors quality control and preventive maintenance programs, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves performing, evaluating, and overseeing laboratory procedures, updating departmental manuals, supervising staff, and maintaining positive relationships with patients, medical staff, and other departments. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for employee evaluations, staff training, and professional development, while supporting laboratory operations, including phlebotomy procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Medical Technology Or
  • Associate's Degree Chemical or Biological Science
  • Clinical Lab Technologist - Issued by Florida or Compact State
  • 4 years of progressive experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Must be licensed in at least 3 of the 5 specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the assigned laboratory sections, ensuring adherence to established procedures, quality control standards, and safety protocols.
  • Organize staff schedules and workload to ensure efficient laboratory function and timely completion of tasks. Ensure adequate coverage for all laboratory shifts.
  • Assess new laboratory instruments and technologies, conducting correlations and validation tests as necessary to integrate them into daily workflows.
  • Regularly review and oversee quality control and preventive maintenance programs to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of laboratory test results.
  • Conduct and evaluate complex technical laboratory procedures accurately, ensuring high standards of performance in line with regulatory and departmental guidelines.
  • Review and maintain departmental policy and procedure manuals, ensuring they are up-to-date and comply with the standards set by accreditation agencies.
  • Supervise laboratory staff, providing guidance, training, and conducting performance evaluations to support professional development and ensure optimal team performance.
  • Provide timely and accurate diagnostic results to physicians and medical staff, ensuring clear communication and follow-up on testing outcomes.
  • Actively engage in ongoing education, in-service training, and professional development to stay current with laboratory advancements and improve technical skills.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, medical staff, and other departments, providing courteous and professional service while addressing any concerns or inquiries effectively.
