About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist-Lead performs clinical testing in assigned areas of the laboratory to aid in the diagnosis of disease, estimation of patient status, and determination of lifestyle and genetic effects on health. This role specializes and/or assumes responsibility for a specific section of the laboratory. The laboratory teams at Samaritan Health Services are responsible for testing samples that may include blood, body fluids, and tissue to aid in the diagnosis of diseases, illnesses, or conditions that may need medical attention. Lab tests are processed for hospital inpatients and emergency room patients twenty-four hours a day. Additionally, testing is performed on outpatient and clinic specimens. All Samaritan Health Services labs are licensed by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Requirements

  • Must be actively following or have completed a Medical Laboratory Scientist approved route to meet eligibility criteria for certification.
  • ASCP, AMT or equivalent certified Medical Laboratory Scientist required within one (1) year of hire.
  • Two (2) years Medical Laboratory Scientist and/or Medical Laboratory Technician experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Analytical/Problem Solving Skills.
  • Working knowledge in areas of laboratory medicine and technology including clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of clinical quality assurance and quality control techniques.
  • Ability to monitor performance of self and others against established performance standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service within the healthcare community.
