About The Position

The Medical Lab Scientist - Generalist position at Elmhurst Hospital involves performing various clinical laboratory tests under general supervision according to established policies and procedures. The role is crucial for obtaining data used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The position promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values, instructing coworkers to treat patients and customers courteously. Responsibilities include performing patient tests using both manual and automated methods, maintaining competencies, performing quality control checks, documenting results, and notifying clinical personnel of critical results. The scientist will also handle biohazardous materials, maintain inventory, assist in training new employees, and perform special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory.
  • Promote patient satisfaction and customer service values.
  • Instruct and encourage coworkers to treat patients and customers courteously.
  • Perform patient tests manually and using automated clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain competencies in accordance with hospital and department policy/procedure.
  • Perform quality control checks and document corrective actions.
  • Review test results for accuracy and notify appropriate clinical personnel of critical results.
  • Perform instrument checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Handle biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies within respective departments.
  • Perform computer functions to manage workload and maintain turnaround times.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Cross-train into other areas of the lab as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
