About The Position

The University of Vermont Medical Center, Inc. seeks a Medical Lab Scientist – Blood Bank to work at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT and perform, calculate, review, and report laboratory diagnostic tests. Duties include, among others: (i) preparing stains, reagents, and solutions accurately; (ii) obtaining and preparing specimens for testing – reviewing orders, specimen labels, and other record for completeness and accuracy; (iii) following procedures to perform tests with expected accuracy and precision; (iv) understanding the clinical significance to test being performed and using judgment to evaluate results before reporting; and (v) recognizing test results which fall outside established limits and following established procedures to confirm results. Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Medical Technology or a directly related field (i.e., Biology or Chemistry). Must also have American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist as well as possess an ICHP Visa Screen Certificate, if applicable. Must be able to work night shift as well as weekends and holidays. This is a bargaining union position. This is a bargaining union position. Requirements
