Requirements

  • Fluency in English and foreign language(s) at a Superior, Advanced High, Advance-Mid or Advanced-Low level according to ACTFL guidelines.
  • High level of customer service and a positive approach.
  • High School degree required (Associates degree preferred).
  • Familiarity with diversity of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of computer systems.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • 1-2 years of experience as an interpreter with strong medical vocabulary preferred.
  • Certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) preferred.

  • Associates or Bachelor degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the duties of the medical interpreter with focus on lesser acute appointments.
  • Receive training and guidance from Medical Interpreter II and Medical Interpreter III and Quality Assurance team.
  • Support and help Clinical teams in their duties to increase successful outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Monitor self-performance regarding interpreting skills.
  • Provide information on the role and limitations to both patients and providers.
  • Utilize terminology glossary created by Medical Interpreter III and Quality Assurance team.
  • Complete training and education developed by Medical Interpreter III and Quality Assurance team.
  • Document encounters within the Language Services dispatching system.
  • Utilize online computer systems such as Outlook Express and Microsoft Suite, and usage of Epic as required.
  • Assist with translations or reviews on an ad hoc basis.
  • Help with on-call interpreting needs based on business need.
