The position involves carrying out the duties of a medical interpreter with a focus on lesser acute appointments, while also having the potential to assist with higher acuity appointments depending on business needs. The role includes receiving training and guidance from Medical Interpreter II, Medical Interpreter III, and the Quality Assurance team. The interpreter supports clinical teams in their responsibilities to enhance successful outcomes and patient satisfaction within the hospital. Additionally, the interpreter is expected to monitor their own performance regarding interpreting skills and provide information on the role and its limitations to both patients and providers to ensure successful encounters. The position requires the utilization of a terminology glossary created by Medical Interpreter III and the Quality Assurance team, as well as active participation in training and education developed by these teams. Documenting encounters within the Language Services dispatching system is also a key responsibility, along with the use of online computer systems such as Outlook Express, with a preference for some knowledge of Microsoft Suite and usage of Epic as required. The interpreter may also be asked to assist with translations or reviews on an ad hoc basis and may be required to help with on-call interpreting needs based on business requirements. It is important to note that the job may be physically demanding.
