About The Position

We are currently seeking experienced Certified Medical Instrument Technicians (Cardiovascular Technicians) to provide top-tier support services in the cardiac catheterization lab/operating room at the Miami VA Healthcare System. The Certified Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiovascular Technician) will function as an integral member of the Cardiovascular Lab team, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures to provide state-of-the-art care. The position requires advanced technical skills, expertise in complex cardiac procedures, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to our Nation’s Veterans.

Requirements

  • Certification: Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the last 6 months) experience in a busy cardiac catheterization lab or operating room.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced cardiac procedures, equipment calibration, sterile technique, and radiation safety.
  • Education: Relevant training and documented competency in cardiovascular technology.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from AHA-accredited institutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Support a range of cardiac procedures, including biopsies, aortic valve replacements, pericardiocentesis, valvuloplasty, and intracardiac ultrasounds.
  • Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment, such as X-ray, ultrasound, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of sterile procedures, ensuring compliance with hospital infection control policies.
  • Perform patient preparation, including placing monitors, prepping access sites, and transporting patients.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment per manufacturer recommendations and report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor patient hemodynamics during procedures and promptly inform the physician of changes.
  • Assist physicians with procedures, including equipment operation, sterile field management, and post-procedure care.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and image transfer to the PACs Cardiology system.
  • Participate in staff training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of diagnostic and interventional equipment and protocols.
  • Provide on-call services for urgent/emergency procedures outside of standard hours.
