The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a Medical Information Services Assistant What You Will Be Doing: In this position you will prepare, assemble, maintain, audit and secure patient medical records on the unit. You will Assist with admissions and discharges including preparing documents and contacting necessary departments. You will have regularly inventory unit stock, obtaining equipment and supplies. You will assist patients in processing valuable and personal property per established Nursing Department Procedure. The Working Environment You Can Expect: The selected candidate will work in an environment that is fast paced, busy and challenging at times, but embraces collaboration through working closely with supervisors, managers, and personnel to assist in providing services to Alaska Psychiatric Institute. This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation. Experience working with others to adapt to changing priorities and work on multiple projects with overlapping or conflicting schedules. Experience with organizing and planning record-keeping and filing systems, as well as the ability to search for and retrieve requested documents or information. Requirements

  • Experience adhering to patients' rights and regulations as they pertain to confidential information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Experience working with others to adapt to changing priorities and work on multiple projects with overlapping or conflicting schedules.
  • Experience with organizing and planning record-keeping and filing systems, as well as the ability to search for and retrieve requested documents or information.
  • Skilled in reading, comprehending, and applying written and verbal materials, instructions, and/or procedures to specific situations.
  • Two years of specific experience in a medical office, clinic, or healthcare facility providing such clerical support services as reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, preparing and retrieving information from electronic or hard copy medical files while maintaining confidentiality, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence.
  • Three years of general clerical experience that includes clerical tasks such as performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, proofreading, and/or typing routine correspondence. This experience may be met by service as an Office Assistant 1 or its equivalent with another employer.
