About The Position

The GME Medical Editor is the primary evaluator of content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, accuracy, clarity, and readability, and ensures quality in support of all materials submitted for review. This position works with authors, research staff, librarians, and other GME staff in developing content for scientific conferences and journals. The GME Medical Editor will provide medical writing training and guidance and serve as the subject matter expert in publication preparation.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in English, Science, or Journalism
  • 3+ years in a healthcare, academic, or corporate environment
  • Previous experience working in a health-care education environment
  • Previous experience in the use of technologies, resources and tools used in medical editing, writing, and research
  • Previous experience in proofreading scientific materials for publication

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an advanced level of copy editing and proofreading of materials
  • Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology
  • Develops style guides, best practices and training in publication preparation
  • Work with the librarian and other research staff to complete fact checking of materials
  • Constructs figures, graphs and tables
  • Maintains familiarity with current industry practices that affect medical editing, writing and publication
