The Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for designing radiation treatment plans according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription to deliver radiation dose while limiting the dose to critical structures surrounding the tumor site. They work under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Service Line Director, and work in collaboration with the medical physicist. This position has access to confidential patient information. Job Specific Essential Functions: -Follows dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist. Plans treatment techniques with computer or manual calculations to deliver prescribed radiation to a defined tumor site. Assist in interactivity and/or interstitial sealed source procedures. -Coordinates treatment simulations and tumor localization’s including CT, MRI, PET fusion when indicated for treatment planning. Performs dosage calculations and verify mathematical accuracy with a system established by the physicist. -Assists the treatment staff in implementation of the treatment plan with correct use of immobilization devices or other treatment parameters. -Assists in planning or fabrication of compensating filters custom shields, wedges or another beam modifying devices -Maintains accurate and complete records. May be involved in clinical research for patients undergoing investigatory studies or the application of dosimetry for a specific clinical problem. -Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques, devices and methods. May teach applied aspects to students or other RRT.
