Central Maine is seeking a Medical Dosimetrist to join our multi-disciplinary team at the Cancer Care Center at Central Maine Medical Center! This is a Full-time, 40 hours per week, benefit eligible position. The Cancer Care Center at Central Maine Medical Center is an integrated, multi-disciplinary program that combines a full spectrum of services and medical specialists to diagnose and treat cancer all in one center. Some of the best minds in cancer care work together, using advanced technology, to give people with cancer the best options for treatment and recovery. Position Summary: The Dosimetrist consults with radiation oncologists and physicists on treatment strategies for patients in order to provide optimal treatment plans. Calculates and checks treatment parameters, instructs radiation therapists regarding implementation of treatment plans and reviews patient’s charts for dosimetry accuracy.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) or eligible
  • Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards

Responsibilities

  • Performs treatment planning, including external beam, brachytherapy and any new techniques and procedures as implemented by department.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using treatment planning software and hardware.
  • Performs troubleshooting of computer systems in collaboration with vendor.
  • Calculates patient treatment times as well as verifies calculations performed by others clinicians.
  • Researches, develops and fabricates immobilization devices and treatment aides.
  • Assists in simulation procedures, obtaining contours and special measurements.
  • Assists in special radiotherapy procedures.
  • Instructs radiation therapy students in physics and dosimetry assuring that the education reflects the requirements for the training program.
  • Under the supervision of a physicist, performs periodic treatment machine calibrations, surveys and other aspects of the radiation oncology department’s quality assurance program.
  • Documents and maintains records as required by State, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.
  • Performs and assists with equipment maintenance.
  • Identifies potential problems with equipment and identifies possible solutions.
  • Collaborates with vendors to minimize machine downtime.
  • Attends professional educational activities.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary and required.
