About The Position

Position Overview: The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy treatment planning team who is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometric characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed and has the training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the radiation therapy physicist and the radiation oncologist. Assure that the primary needs of patients are met and that patients are satisfied with their care. Administer accurate and efficient treatments to patients. Assure smooth functioning of the day-to-day operation. Administer medical information in a professional and accurate manner that complies with federal and state regulations. Maintain positive patient relations.

Requirements

  • Formal education includes an undergraduate degree (B.S.) in radiation technology or an associated scientific field.
  • Medical Dosimetry requirements defined by the MDCB
  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists
  • Work experience in medical dosimetry is a minimum of two years at a progressive radiation therapy department, in a certification eligible status.
  • This requirement can be waived if incumbent has completed a degree at an "Accredited Educational Program in Medical Dosimetry."

Responsibilities

  • Contouring clearly discernible critical normal structures.
  • Ensuring proper orientation of volumetric patient image data on the radiation treatment planning (RTP) system (from CT and other fused image data sets)
  • Designing and generating the treatment plan under the direction of the radiation oncologist and medical physicist is required
  • Generating all technical documentation required to implement the treatment plan (IGRT, IMRT, 3D, Electrons, etc)
  • Being available for the first treatment and assisting
  • Provide treatment planning
  • Provide dose calculations
  • Provide chart review
  • Provide radiation measurement
  • Participate in educating staff and physicians on radiation therapy
  • Record charges for each patient as accrued
  • Provide chart setup prior to initiating new treatment fields
  • Report as requested to Radiation Oncologist and Chief Medical Physicist
  • Supervise Radiation Therapists
