About The Position

The Department of Human Services Medical Director-Psychiatrist performs a variety of psychiatric care services to Ozaukee County residents served by several mandated mental health and substance abuse programs operated out of the Department of Human Services-Behavioral Health Division. The psychiatrist provides clinical evaluations and treatment for individuals committed to Ozaukee County DHS for psychiatric care under Chapter 51 of state statutes as well as completes competency evaluations for recommendations for guardianship and protective placements and applicable medication petitions under Chapter 55 of state statutes. The position is to assess the psychiatric needs of consumers and to prescribe appropriate psychotropic medications as applicable. The psychiatrist also acts as medical director for the certified programs under DHS 34, 63, and 75, and globally under the oversight of the 51.42 board. The psychiatrist provides clinical consultation and support as needed to the licensed mental health professionals, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and RN employed by the department and assigned to those certified programs. The position may also act in a consulting role to the Ozaukee County Jail medical team.

  • Ability to use virtual platforms such as Zoom or TEAMS for client assessments and testimony

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the psychiatric needs of individuals referred through Ozaukee County Behavioral Health programs for individuals under commitments and guardianships under Wisconsin State Statutes 51 and 55 respectively.
  • Oversees the daily operations of the partial hospitalization program and completes evaluations and treatment in accordance with programs regulations under DHS 75.
  • Prepares court reports and provides expert testimony in legal proceedings related to re-commitments, medication orders, and protective placements.
  • Documents evaluations including advantages/disadvantages/alternatives of medications.
  • Prescribes psychiatric medications as needed.
  • Takes part in clinical collaboration/clinical supervision meetings with several treatment teams operating out of the Behavioral Health Division (CSP, AODA, Outpatient Mental Health, Crisis), and contributes clinical expertise, referrals, diagnosis, etc. as needed.
  • Acts in consultation and collaboration with the clinic nurse practitioner (APNP)
  • Provides consultation as needed for Department of Human Services staff for non-counseling center clients involved with other programs (CPS, ADRC, YJ, etc.)
  • Provides consultation to jail medical personnel as requested for psychiatric medical management including medication assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders
