The Medical Director provides clinical oversight and physician and advanced practice provider leadership for outpatient ambulatory clinics. This position combines direct patient care with administrative and operational responsibilities related to clinical quality, regulatory compliance, provider engagement, and performance outcomes. The role collaborates with UPG and UVAH leadership to align clinical practice with organizational goals and standards. Reports to the Chief Operating Officer. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions of the Job: The Medical Director provides clinical oversight and leadership for physicians and advanced practice providers. The role ensures consistent standards of care, regulatory compliance, and alignment with UPG and UVA Health clinical protocols and quality expectations. The position supports provider performance and engagement through clinical guidance, mentorship, and participation in onboarding and professional development. The Medical Director partners with operational and administrative leaders to support clinical workflows, access, quality improvement, and population health initiatives within an ambulatory care environment. The role serves as a clinical liaison to UPG and UVA Health leadership, contributing clinical input to performance monitoring, operational decisions, and strategic initiatives to improve patient outcomes and provider experience.
