Major Responsibilities: Clinical pathway redesign Advocate for integrating sustainability criteria in clinical care decisions and care pathways. Identify and initiate evidence-based clinical and environmental best practices to support clinical transformation. Bring subject matter expertise to the integration of sustainability and resilience into clinical operations and community health programs. Support clinical service lines and service line sustainability leads in the development of sustainability goals and projects that align with larger enterprise sustainability commitments. Support Clinical Transformation pillar leaders in prioritizing and scaling clinical sustainability initiatives. Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams in the development, implementation and evaluation of environmental standards of practice for health professionals, ambulatory clinics, and in-patient care units. Quality Improvement (QI) and Quality Assurance (QA) Work with relevant stakeholders within the organization to develop projects, track progress, align with quality improvement frameworks, and assess benefits and outcomes (including environmental, financial and health) of clinical sustainability initiatives. Partner with clinical teams to review, enhance and develop patient care guidelines, resources and tools to improve patient and community health and resilience in setting of climate-driven exposures including extreme heat, flooding events, air quality concerns and infectious disease threats. Collaborate with the Sustainability Team and Supply Chain to launch and drive projects that reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of supply chain. Education and training Build mechanisms and develop education to communicate clinical transformation as a sustainability priority, raise awareness of the intersection of climate, health, and health care across the organization, and delineate the role clinicians can play in driving clinical sustainability improvements. Support Wake Forest University School of Medicine Train the Trainer programming in Planetary HealthMaintains clinical and professional competency through participating in educational opportunities provided in monthly meetings. participates in annual mandatory education according to Atrium HR standards for employees and/or volunteers. Communication Lead communication, trust-building, teamwork, and engagement with clinical departments and ensure synergy between clinical sustainability activities and broader organizational sustainability goals. Create and solidify connectivity between sustainability, clinical, research and education departments to foster alignment with enterprise pledges for clinical preeminence and safety, health equity, affordability, next generation work force, learning and discovery, and environmental sustainability—and the Rewire 2030 framework.
