About The Position

Atlantic Health System is Seeking a Psychiatrist/Associate Medical Director, Addiction Services for Overlook Medical Center in Summit NJ We are seeking a full-time, double board certified/board eligible adult psychiatrist, and addiction psychiatrist to serve as an enterprise-wide expert in substance use disorders, and who is interested in developing and improving innovative and impactful services for our community offered at all levels of care. We have a strong commitment to optimizing addiction care services and are looking for someone motivated to help lead this charge at Overlook Medical Center (OMC) in Summit, NJ, part of Atlantic Health System (AHS).

Responsibilities

  • Direct Patient Care: Provide consultative services to: the OMC ED; our novel EmPATH program (observation level); our 24-bed voluntary inpatient psych unit, and hospital-wide--focusing on diagnosis, withdrawal management, and medication for addiction treatment.
  • Offer ongoing management for substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions in our outpatient division, including individuals referred from our ED, C/L service, IOPs, and inpatient units.
  • Lead our co-occurring IOP program, providing psychiatric leadership and collaborating closely with APNs to ensure integrated care.
  • Leadership and Education: Serve as a subject matter expert in addiction treatment, leading educational initiatives on medications for opioid and other use disorders, both within the Department of Psychiatry and across all medical disciplines.
  • Teach psychiatry residents on addiction elective from outside programs.
  • Collaborate with other addiction specialists to develop best practices for opioid, alcohol, and other substance use disorder withdrawal protocols across the behavioral health service line of AHS.
  • Champion efforts to reduce stigma and bias around addiction through education and comprehensive therapy rollouts, including harm reduction strategies and overdose prevention, such as Narcan training.
  • Standardize co-occurring disorders programming across all IOP/APH/Inpatient units.
  • Advocacy for High-Risk Populations: Lead the development of innovative care approaches for high-risk populations, including LGBTQ+, obstetric patients, and individuals with chronic pain and co-occurring addiction.
