UnitedHealthcare's Medical Policy team seeks a skilled and experienced Medical Copy Editor to support our policy development and publication process. This individual will be responsible for editing complex evidence-based medical policy documents, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with medical publications standards. The ideal candidate will have a background in medical copyediting within a biotechnology company, health research organization, law firm, or equivalent. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

  • Review, proofread, and edit medical policy documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance
  • Collaborate with a large team of medical policy writers and physicians to continually improve processes to enhance the quality and coherence of medical content for document development and refinement
  • Ensure all content adheres to industry and internal standards or guidelines
  • Maintain consistency in terminology and style across all documents
  • Maintain templates and help develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support team members and advance standards
  • Identify trends in quality deficiencies, track, and communicate findings to policy writers, medical directors and/or leadership, as appropriate
  • 3+ years of experience as a medical copy editor in a pharmaceutical company, medical device company, biotechnology company, law firm, medical journal, contract research organization (CRO), or academic setting
  • Solid knowledge of medical terminology, scientific publications and data with ability to understand complex scientific concepts to effectively edit and proofread medical content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational abilities with meticulous approach to editing, checking medical content for errors, improving readability; and strong time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a large and diverse team
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn, innovate, and adapt in a fast-paced setting
  • Medical Writer Certified (MWC) or similar credentials
  • Experience submitting applications to regulatory agencies
  • Experience with shared document collaboration (i.e. cloud-based content creation platforms)
  • Knowledge of reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley)
  • Experience setting up and maintaining quality control systems and writing standards
  • Experience fact checking citations and summaries against published clinical studies to ensure accuracy
