About The Position

The Medical Coordinator provides administrative and clinical healthcare services, as well as direct nursing care, for youth in the Caminos program. This role follows Cunningham Children’s Home policies, federal and state regulations, and applicable State Board(s) of Nursing standards. The Medical Coordinator is an active member of program leadership, responsible for care coordination, medication oversight, routine and specialty medical and dental care through community providers, health education for youth and staff, and related administrative duties. About the Caminos Program: The Caminos Program serves children who have recently migrated to the United States, supporting family reunification, education, and legal immigration processes. This program reflects Cunningham Children’s Home’s mission: enriching communities, one family at a time.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current licensure in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse and Current State of Illinois Driver's License required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and clinical skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Pre-employment physical and background check required

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Science of Nursing considered depending on years of experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including refugee and/or unaccompanied children and adolescents.

Responsibilities

  • Medical case management and health assessments
  • Education and counseling for youth and staff
  • Medication administration and management
  • Collaboration with community healthcare providers
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule (primarily remote consultations)
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, lab tests, and phlebotomy; provide first aid and emergency care
  • Support physicians and nurses during exams and procedures
  • Explain treatments and educate youth on medications and special diets
  • Observe patients for physical or behavioral changes and report as necessary
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure HIPAA compliance
  • Prepare treatment rooms and maintain a safe, clean environment
  • Advocate for youth health and safety in collaboration with the treatment team
  • Facilitate training for medication administration personnel and complete CDC/OSHA required training
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to blood or body fluids
