About The Position

The Medical Insurance Collector at Quartz Medical Billing and Coding, LLC is responsible for managing aging receivables related to out-of-network insurance claims and some government payers. This role involves identifying low payment issues, denial reasons, and claim rejections to develop solutions for reprocessing or submitting appeals to maximize reimbursement.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in Hospital Medical Billing.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology and general knowledge of medical records.
• Familiarity with CARES Act and current COVID billing policies.
• Knowledge of Out of Network benefits.
• Understanding of Major Commercial Carriers and Medicare.
• Typing speed of 45 WPM or greater.
• Professional written and spoken grammar, spelling, and phone etiquette.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work accurately in a high-volume environment.
• Experience with interpreting and reconciling explanations of payments, patient payments, and posting summaries in GOREV.

Nice To Haves

• Waystar Experience (1 year preferred).
• Freestanding ER experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Responsibilities

• Follow up on aging insurance claims.
• Negotiate payments with Third Party Administrators for maximum reimbursement of out-of-network claims.
• Analyze claims for underpayment or need for corrections/reprocessing.
• Submit appeals as necessary.
• Interpret remits and explanations of payment.
• Analyze out-of-network benefits and process claims accordingly.
• Apply ICD/CPT/HCPCS knowledge to ensure claims are processed correctly.
• Reconcile or review payments.
• Handle inbound calls from insurance claims, attorney offices, and sometimes patients.
• Maintain daily goals set forth by the department manager.
