Medical Coding Specialist Southwoods Health is hiring a Medical Coding Specialist. The position has the option to be fully remote or fully in office. Responsible for the proper assignment of all CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to ensure compliant coding of all assigned encounters. Requirements

  • Current medical coding certification (CCS, CCA, CPC, RHIT, COC, ACA, or CIC)
  • Responsible for the assignment of CPT codes and ICD-10-CM codes for higher level office procedures and hospital procedures
  • E/M coding as necessary for specialty offices
  • At least 3 years’ experience
  • Working knowledge of Excel
  • Full-time
  • Option to be: Remote but must be commutable distance from Boardman Ohio for training, or fully in office in Boardman, Ohio.

Responsibilities

  • Read and abstract E/M level from specialty offices, or hospital documentation if required
  • Provide CPT codes for: Surgeries, Anesthesia, Pain management, Radiology as needed
  • Query physician’s with-in the Meditech system, or for those not on Meditech, reach out to assigned hospital contact person
  • Understand bundling concept and heed CMS guidelines
  • Assign ICD-10 codes to the highest level of specificity
  • Understand HCPCS codes and assign appropriately for POS
  • Accurately append modifiers as needed
  • Understand payer groups such as Medicaid HMO, and Medicare HMO and code to appropriate guidelines
  • Have a moderate knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Maintain 95 percent accuracy in coding and meet productivity standards as assigned
  • Research and find answers as needed
  • Ask questions when necessary to the appropriate superior
  • Ensure all processes at responsible physician practice maintains compliance with all regulatory agencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
