About The Position

The Medical Coding and Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of medical and laboratory requisitions, adhering to ICD-10 coding practices. This full-time position is based in Hilo, Hawaii, and involves working closely with healthcare professionals to maintain compliance and confidentiality while supporting patient care through precise coding and billing processes.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Typing speed of at least 35 wpm and proficiency in 10 Key.
• Knowledge of medical coding (ICD-10) is required.
• Knowledge of medical procedure coding (CPT, HCPC) is preferred.
• Understanding of CMS (Medicare) medical necessity policies is preferred.
• Medical coding certification is required.
• Prior experience in a medical billing office is preferred.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, health clearance, and hospital compliance training as required.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of six (6) months of related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Experience with medical/insurance billing and customer service.
• Experience in a multitasking environment.

Responsibilities

• Code medical/laboratory requisitions with diagnoses and/or procedures using ICD-10 coding practices.
• Investigate and obtain missing diagnoses and/or procedure data.
• Assist and/or train others in coding practices as necessary.
• Adhere to confidentiality, safety, compliance, and legal requirements.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance and comply with company guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
