About The Position

Employees in this position will be working at our MPIP business office. Employees will be responsible for the maintenance and review of patient accounts and will perform numerous related functions to accomplish tasks. Tasks will include posting payments and ensuring patient accounts are accurate. Occasionally, may have to answer account balance and/or insurance inquiries requested from departments.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of medical or general office experience OR Completion of related education or training and one year of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in AthenaHeath IDX system preferred. At least one year of payment posting experience in a medical setting.
  • Ability to read and understand insurance EOBs. Ability to analyze patient invoices, post patient and insurance payments and/or adjustments as noted by patients' insurance carrier. Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at one time.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel. Basic knowledge in accounting. Good communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Post all manual insurance payments and ZERO pay EOBs. Daily extract non electronic EOB's from payor portals and prepare batches if necessary.
  • Daily post payments from commercial insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Workers' Comp, etc.,
  • Payments will be worked manually or electronically in accordance with the explanation of benefits (EOB).
  • All posted transactions must be reviewed for accuracy and must balance to the bank deposit amount. All account postings must meet the established department posting standards and timelines.
  • Apply patient payments received from JPM Healthcare Link, Phreesia, Vpay, self-pay, credit cards, NSF recoveries, attorney checks and any mail payments to patient accounts on a daily basis.
  • Assist department Supervisor in posting and recording Special Programs, Grants, Contracts and incentive payments received.
  • Complete assigned daily ETM Payment Posting related tasks.
  • Assist MPIP department in reviewing daily correspondence and entering insurance denials and rejections.
  • Call insurance providers to inquire payment/offset information.
  • Provide assistance and training to current and/or new staff. All other duties and projects assigned by Supervisor and/or Director.
  • Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes.
  • Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, integrity, Advancement and Teamwork.).
  • Performs all other duties assigned.
