About The Position

The Medical Billing Specialist at Rocky Mountain Movement Disorders Center is responsible for managing the full-cycle billing process within a thriving neurology clinic. This role involves providing excellent customer service, processing payments, submitting claims, and ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required (associate's or bachelor's degree preferred).
  • 2+ years of medical billing experience.
  • 1+ year of insurance claims (A/R) follow-up.
  • Pleasant, professional demeanor.
  • Desire to work as a team member.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Competence in understanding medical health insurance, including a solid knowledge of Medicare and commercial insurance guidelines.
  • Comfortable negotiating insurance websites (Novitasphere, Optum, Availity, etc.).
  • Proficient in keyboarding/typing and ten-key skills.
  • Experience using an EMR - Familiarity with eClinicalWorks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, their representatives, and insurance company staff through prompt and courteous phone interactions.
  • Explain balances to and process payments from patients.
  • Create and submit claims from superbills.
  • Check claim batches and work rejected claims daily.
  • Post Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs) and paper payments daily.
  • Ensure all levels of insurance follow-up are completed for primary, secondary, and tertiary claims.
  • Work escalated appeals and overturn denials.
  • Send patient statements weekly.
  • Complete Patient Collections Management cycle each month, including calling patients with overdue accounts.
  • Be mindful of patient confidentiality and security risks, and maintain strict HIPAA compliance.
  • Attend meetings and prepare presentations on insurance industry changes.
  • Assist team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
