About The Position

General Purpose of Job: Provides basic patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. Performs various clerical and administrative duties under the direction of the Physician Practice Office Supervisor

Requirements

Current certification in basic life support
High School Diploma or GED
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program
Demonstrated knowledge of computers, insurance, and medical terminology
Excellent verbal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Certified Medical Assistant preferred
Previous experience in a physician health care office or similar setting preferred

Responsibilities

Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and office staff in a professional manner.
Processes patients and schedules appointments/tests following established guidelines.
Assists in assessing the condition of the patient, and preparing the patient for the examination.
Reports pertinent information to appropriate personnel, and records data in the patient record.
Administers medication, performs diagnostic procedures/treatments in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Answers phone/nurse line, and refers patient calls to the appropriate personnel.
Enters and posts appropriate information on patient encounter forms and department logs.
Maintains files, obtains appropriate authorization forms/releases. Prepares and files records.
Acts as trusted agent for providers ordering prescriptions by calling, faxing or electronically/sent prescriptions and refill information to designated pharmacy.
Maintains equipment and supplies, and operates various office and medical equipment.
Perform registrar duties as needed.
