About The Position

Responsible for detailed review and assessment of medical cases. Works collaboratively with the medical and operations department to coordinate and provide medical assistance and evacuations on behalf of clients, members and patients. Requires detailed case-by-case analysis of essential services requested and required to coordinate safe and efficient evacuations and repatriation. Requires close collaboration with the Operations Department and other members of the medical team; together with the treating physicians, health care facilities, health care providers and transport providers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Physician Assistant Program accredited by the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
  • Physician Assistant Certification.
  • Licensure in the United States (any state).
  • 8 years of relevant and progressive clinical experience in emergency medicine, hospitalist, and/or intensive care.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of health/travel insurance and air medical transport preferred.
  • International travel experience is beneficial.
  • Travel Medicine experience/knowledge is advantageous.
  • Emergency Medical Transport experience/knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate effective troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply clinical medical expertise, knowledge of flight physiology, and On Call International guidelines, procedures and protocols to provide medical direction.
  • Summarize information and document plan or request additional information, Nurse Case Manager consultation, physician consultation, etc.
  • Provide assessment of appropriateness of care and whether the patient should be evacuated.
  • Review fitness-to-fly documentation and make decisions regarding approval or modification.
  • Conduct telephone consultations with treating physicians, patients, family, and client representatives.
  • Provide medical facility/provider recommendations based on On Call International's databases.
  • Issue fitness-to-fly orders including independent travel, nonmedical escort, medical escort, seat upgrade, ground transport, Oxygen, commercial stretcher, and air ambulance.
  • Review and authorize/co-sign rescue nurse orders prepared by nurse case managers.
  • Provide medical direction to Rescue Nurses when requested.
  • Assist the Medical and Operations Team in the management of medical cases.
  • Document all care management notes in accordance with professional standards.
  • Utilize database resources to recommend appropriate medical facilities/providers.
  • Assist in problem solving with clients, customers, providers or service issues.
  • Assist with the development of evacuation management policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the On Call management team to continuously improve services provided to clients.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
