The position involves assisting physicians with medical procedures in an oncology and hematology office setting. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. The role requires adherence to regulatory standards and thorough documentation of patient interactions and laboratory results.

  • Perform proper quality control procedures before patient testing.
  • Conduct laboratory blood work and blood draws.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
  • Send outside labs to appropriate facilities as dictated by patient's insurance plan.
  • Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists according to regulatory agencies.
  • Follow the AON patient I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 depression screening of patients as requested by physicians.
  • Place patients in exam rooms and prepare for physicians in a timely manner.
  • Receive lab reports and document them in the patient's chart or Onco/EMR.
  • Assist physicians with medical procedures such as bone marrows, fine needle aspirate, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.
  • Schedule outside testing, referrals to other physicians, and hospital admissions as ordered by physicians.
  • Document testing/treatment rendered to patients in medical records.
  • Show physicians critical blood counts according to guidelines.
  • Obtain all pertinent scans and CDs for physician's review.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Initiate troubleshooting procedures for instrument malfunctions.
  • Perform EKG testing where applicable.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Complete required CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.
  • Observe established safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Work at any AON location as needed and be available for overtime.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Valid Driver's License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations.
  • One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office with the ability to perform venipuncture.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with EMR systems.
  • Second language skills are an asset.
  • Competitive salary range of $15.83 - $26.38.

  • Standard work hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
