About The Position

The role of the Medical Assistant is to provide both administrative and clinical support to the clinics. The Medical Assistant must be able to work independently as well as interact as part of a team, consistently demonstrating respect and consideration to fellow staff members. Certain duties Medical Assistant may vary based upon office location and department structure.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant degree from an accredited vocational institution or a community college course in Medical Assisting.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.
  • Certified in Medical Assisting strongly preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Thorough knowledge in computer information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming phone calls addressing patient requests and scheduling appointments as needed.
  • Contact patient no shows and reschedule appointments on an as needed basis.
  • Distribute patient records to the medical staff and responsible for new patient chart prep.
  • Ensure all medical information is accurate and available for review by proper personnel.
  • Process outgoing patient referrals as required.
  • Check out and discharge patients and collect any necessary copayments.
  • Ensure all supplies are properly stocked and maintain an effective work area.
  • Schedule patient appointments and medical procedures using the EMR system.
  • Obtain surgical and diagnostic insurance authorizations.
  • Prepare examination room and ensure necessary supplies for patient care are available.
  • Greet patients in the waiting area and escort them to the lab or examination room.
  • Assist patients in placing personal belongings in the appropriate place in the exam room.
  • Ensure any medications brought to the visit by the patient are placed into patient’s chart.
  • Verify patient’s history prior to seeing the physician.
  • Obtain patient’s vital signs including weight, blood pressure, respiration, and pulse.
  • Assist the physician with office procedures as a second pair of hands.
  • Collaborate with the RN’s and LPN’s to provide high quality patient care.
  • Maintain working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and apply these policies and procedures.
