About The Position

The Medical Assistant position is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Provider. This role includes a variety of duties related to patient care, clinical support, and operational tasks. The Medical Assistant will engage with patients, document communications, assist with clinical procedures, and ensure a clean and safe environment in the medical office.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
  • MA Registration or Certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of current practice management systems and electronic medical records.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak Spanish.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments for patient care.
  • Skill in taking vital signs.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Experience with geriatric patients and patients in lower socio-economic sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients by answering routine questions, resolving minor difficulties, and giving directions as authorized by the Provider.
  • Document all patient communication in patient charts, including Provider directed instructions.
  • Support patients with education and information on community resources.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families as directed by the Provider.
  • Assist patients in basic self-management goal setting and apply active listening and behavior modification principles.
  • Make appointments as needed and directed by the Provider.
  • Assist with routine office examinations and procedures, including administering injections, medications, vaccinations, and blood draws.
  • Document all procedures and patient interactions in the patient’s chart.
  • Track and attach laboratory and diagnostic test results to patient charts and communicate results to patients as directed.
  • Serve as a liaison to pharmacies regarding prescriptions and follow up with patients as needed.
  • Participate in patient and practice level meetings.
  • Assist with patient communications such as reminders for preventive or chronic care steps.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize equipment and exam rooms according to safety and clinical protocols.
  • Handle the disposal of infectious/hazardous waste according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Inventory and request supplies.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and support a shared goal model for high-quality patient care.
  • Facilitate coordination of care following hospital or ER utilization.
