About The Position

Hartford HealthCare, a comprehensive healthcare network in Connecticut, is seeking a Medical Assistant for Windham Hospital's AASM accredited Sleep Center. Windham Hospital has a 75-year history of providing high-tech, compassionate medical care to Northeastern Connecticut. The Medical Assistant will primarily assist medical providers by performing various aspects of medical assisting, patient education, patient monitoring, and coordination with third-party payers and Durable Medical Equipment Companies (DMEC) in a busy Sleep Center environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting program, or CNA program, or equivalents, with expected completion within 60 days of employment
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a health care setting
  • Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or similar credentialing body, OR State of CT DPH CNA, required within 60 days of employment
  • BLS certification required or completion within 30 days of employment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to make independent decisions within his/her area of responsibility
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in the English language required daily
  • Excellent telephone skills required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of PC including word processing and data entry
  • Knowledge of third party payer (government & private payer) rules and regulations regarding sleep medicine testing, patient evaluations and durable medical equipment qualification requirements (or obtain within 60 days of employment)
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of various sleep testing procedures (or obtain within 60 days of employment)
  • Intermediate skills using the EPIC ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD (EHR) in the outpatient setting, including patient registration, scheduling, Encounter generation and patient rooming (or obtain within 60 days of employment)
  • Must maintain, at all times, BLS CPR certification
  • Maintains required level of technical and/or professional learning
  • Ensures through continuing education the skills necessary to assess patients based on their age-specific needs are maintained

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in a health care setting
  • Advanced knowledge of AASM accredited Sleep Center office practice
