A Brief Overview Responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from donors/patients, checking quality of blood, and assuming responsibility for safety and comfort of patient following established standards and practices. Responsible for performing EKG's, tympanograms, oximetry, pulmonary function tests and ambulatory blood pressure and event monitor setup. Responsible for sterilizing and maintenance of the autoclaves. Also responsible for processing telephone calls, lab test results, cancellations, inquiries, and lab reports.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, receives, and transports blood and other specimens from clinic patients following accepted standards of practice.
  • Has working knowledge of computer, including the ability to retrieve, check duplication, cancel, and place orders when needed.
  • Understands and is knowledgeable of laboratory tests, including tests which require offsite collection by patients.
  • Coordinates lab orders and reports for physicians and nursing home facilities.
  • Presents and explains Advanced Beneficiary Notices to Medicare patients.
  • Has basic knowledge of diagnosis codes. Also understands, utilizes and can explain non-Medicare waivers for non-Medicare patients.
  • Performs EKG, oximetry, pulmonary function testing and uses nebulizer, and has the ability to set up patients with event and ambulatory blood pressure monitors.
  • Assists with basic (waived) laboratory tests as needed.
  • Cleans, packages, and sterilizes surgical instruments.
  • Operates autoclave appropriately for specific instrument sterilization and is responsible for maintaining sterility records as assigned.
  • Performs quality control and proficiency testing on glucose meter and/or waived kit testing as assigned.
  • Suggests process improvements, assists with orientation of new employees.
