About The Position

The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests and referrals. Works under close supervision.

Requirements

  • Completion of MA program or 1-year clinical experience
  • High School or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • BLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Collect Patient Clinical Data by obtaining vital signs, chief complaint, allergies and medication list at all times.
  • Accurately maintain, review and document patient medical records, notes and physician orders to ensure accurate tracking of patient care in accordance with documentation standards.
  • Prepare and administer medication according to physician/practitioner orders at all times.
  • Provide assistance with minor surgical procedures (sutures, I&D, Joint injections, mole removal, biopsy, laceration repair, PAP smear etc) as requested.
  • Follow procedures for obtaining, handling and processing of specimens and cultures at all times.
  • Effectively use equipment such as EKG, Scales, Pule Oximeter, B/P Cuff, Nebulizer, Glucometer as evidenced by lack of malfunction due to operator error.
  • Provide assistance in preparing patients for procedures such as mole removal, biopsy, laceration repair, PAP smear etc.
  • Complete patient referrals to other physicians (consults), educational facilities within 2 days of notification.
  • Complete referrals to educational facilities such as diabetic education.
  • Effectively coordinate diagnostic testing as ordered by the physician/practitioner as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Communicate with other healthcare providers regarding patient care within expected timeframes.
  • Notify patients of test results, changes in medication and other alteration in care as instructed by practitioner within 48hrs of test.
  • Communicate with other healthcare providers regarding patient care as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Call prescription medications into the pharmacy as ordered by physician/practitioner.
  • Display sensitivity, courtesy and respect when dealing with patients and co-workers.
  • Readily assist team members as needed.
  • Answer/address questions & concerns from patients and/or family members in an appropriate manner as evidenced by lack of customer complaints.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
