  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Responsibilities

  • Greet and room patients; obtain and accurately record vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, height, weight) using age-appropriate equipment.
  • Document chief complaints and complete all required patient intake and Medical Assistant charting in the EMR.
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms between patient visits.
  • Operate and assist with clinical equipment and procedures, including: EKGs Oxygen saturation monitoring Pulmonary function testing Vision and hearing screenings Ear and eye irrigations Peak flow testing Nebulizer treatments
  • Administer medications, injections, and immunizations per clinic policy and provider orders, following proper dosage calculations and the Seven Rights of Medication Administration .
  • Assist with and clean up after minor procedures (e.g., Pap smears, mole removals, minor lacerations).
  • Set up and assist with age-appropriate well-child exams and CHDP visits, including immunizations and accurate documentation.
  • Perform lab testing and quality control per site guidelines (HCG, Rapid Strep, Micro testing).
  • Collect and prepare lab specimens and cultures according to protocol.
  • Obtain diabetic labs at the start of patient visits per Diabetes HCM protocol (A1C, blood glucose, urine microalbumin).
  • Perform autoclave operation, spore testing, cleaning, and proper instrument packaging.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control standards throughout clinical areas using medical asepsis and universal precautions.
  • Perform chart scrubbing and update Health Care Maintenance (HCM) in the EMR.
  • Manage phone documentation, refill requests, patient questionnaires, and staff messaging through Athena tasks.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits according to clinic procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and California privacy regulations.
  • Adhere strictly to the California Medical Assistant Scope of Practice.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
